Android Phones With IR Blaster [Updated September 2020]

Infrared Blaster(IR Blaster) is a novel feature which is available in most Android Phones with infra red support. Infra Red is a type of invisible light waves having low frequency than the red color in visible light spectrum. Earlier infra red was used for data transfer between mobile devices, in addition to Bluetooth. The communication using infra red(IR) was slower, but it avoided the pairing and other hassles of Bluetooth. Now a days, the infra red enabled Mobile phones are used as an IR blaster which allows you to control your TV or AC with your Mobile Phone. Here is a curated list of Android Phones With IR Blaster.

Before we move on to the list, here is a brief history of IR enabled Mobile Phones. Most of you may assume that IR Blaster is an invention of new Android Mobile Manufacturers. But the reality is that Nokia introduced infra red capability in their Symbian Phones many years ago.There was an app called Psiloc IR Remote which allowed Symbian Phones to be used as Remote for TVs,ACs,DVDs etc. I still remember using Psiloc IR Remote in my Nokia 5700 in 2007.

Gradually Nokia abandoned infra red antenna in later Symbian Phones and Windows Mobile Phones. Then it was the turn of Android Smartphone manufacturers. LG, Samsung and HTC introduced IR blaster in their phones in 2013. Surprisingly, the newest Samsung and LG Phones do not have IR Blaster. Nowadays,the Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi Redmi, Huawei, ZTE produce Android Phones with IR Blaster.
