Why are blu rays not full screen?
Blu-ray player shows black bars across the top and bottom of the screen. Black bars on the screen means the aspect ratio of your TV is different from the aspect ratio of what you’re watching, or basically, the video you’re watching is wider than your TV.

Movies are generally no higher resolution than 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Played at 1:1 size that’s only a quarter of the size of my monitor, so to play full-screen the computer has to re-size the movies. Computer monitors are typically a lot higher resolution than a TV.
